My window is much like altar–

Heaven’s pale light falling soft

On terracotta tiles I love

I could almost reach them

If I tried…feel the warmth

Of God’s strong hands

Perhaps look in His eyes–

Tall-stacked books on

Bless-ed Table, prayers

I’ve prayed, likely forgot

If they were selfish

Ones, but not for those

Of everyone I knew

Wishing to know better–

I prayed they’d live

If they were dying

Prayed I’d forgive

What can’t be changed…

While penning poems

My twilight letters

And watching for

Candles in the sky

Heaven curves…a

Loving arc toward Earth…

Between sky and waters souls

Breathe sacred prayers…

They pray that holy seeds of

Redemption would press down

Deep where they’re planted by

Kind winds…deep beneath

Fertile ground fed by blood

Of fallen warriors and saints

Deep where turtle bones

Rest silently, forever calm

Oh, Lord God…You reign

Let all Your creation heal
