Quiet Presence (A-to-Z Challenge)

Where quiet waters

Flow… lead me to them, Shepherd

That heart may rest, meditate

On Your words ‘midst calm

Quietness of rivers, streams

Gently hushing sea

~

Bring me into Your

Stillness… Holy Spirit breathes

Upon slow waters

Where soul is refreshed, and praise

Rises in whispers to You

He lets me lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still and quiet waters. Psalm 23:2, AMP

So the Levites quieted all the people, saying, “Be still, for the day is holy; do not be worried.” Nehemiah 8:11, AMP

For the Lord GOD, the Holy One of Israel has said this, “In returning [to Me] and rest you shall be saved, In quietness and confident trust is your strength.” Isaiah 30:15, AMP

17And the effect of righteousness will be peace,
And the result of righteousness will be quietness and confident trust forever. Isaiah 32:17, AMP

Perfectly Polite Patient Perseverance (A-to-Z Challenge/NaPoWriMo)

I’ve stretched my title with a rubberband of humor!  I’m nowhere near perfect…and not always polite.  But I’ve been working diligently on patience and perseverance…

Please read all the way to the end because there’s one more bit of humor, via scripture references.  I promise it’s NOT my usual long pile!

😇😇😇

It takes more than good manners

To be perfectly polite

One must be close to sainthood

To even get it half-way right

That’s why I pray for grace each day

Poured out on self and others

And while I’m asking God for mercies

I say, “add more patience, please”

~

I’m working hard on Perseverance

It’s taking longer than I thought…

You know my heart, Lord, is to please You

This best effort’s all I’ve got–

See, Perseverance requires Patience*

It’s a challenge, Sir…just where to start**

It’s interesting that *James 1:4, in the 2 versions of the Bible I’ve referenced, would suggest “patience” and “perseverance” are synonymous.   So, being an English Major, I checked with a couple sources–both Collins Dictionary and Thesaurus.com agree.

But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing. NKJV

Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. NIV

**My last reference scripture was of Great Encouragment to the poem’s author (moi):

I know your deeds, your love and faith, your service and perseverance, and that you are now doing more than you did at first. Rev 2:19, NIV

‘I know your deeds, and your love and faith, and service and perseverance, and that your deeds of late are greater than at first.  Rev 2:19, NASB

I Would Have Asked… (for dVerse)

https://dversepoets.com/2024/04/16/dverse-poetics-maggie-smith-and-conversational-mode-of-address/

I don’t know if I’ve come even close to satisfying the instructions for this poetic form…but this is what I’ve got:

I would have asked

“Why couldn’t you love me?”

But you were silent

Perhaps distracted…

I would have said

“Please look at me

With tenderness and

Not mute scorn

Please don’t ignore…”

I would have begged

“Why could we never

Have connected

Just one time

For single day?”

But you were far

Uncaring distance

Heart needed

Longed too much…

Now you both have gone

 I don’t know, somewhere

One I’ve most forgotten

The other heart cannot–

You live in hidden dreams

Where candle ne’er goes out

Honesty vs Lie

https://weeklyprompts.com/2024/04/17/weekly-prompts-wednesday-challenge-honesty-2/

The prompt is HONESTY

I’ve lived long enough

Settled pref’rence–truth, or lie:

Honesty–no doubt

It can slice deep to marrow

With heart-stopping agony

Temporarily…

~

Lie is different animal

Stealthy, stalking, fanged

Venom malicious drips slow

Through veins…till heart sickens, dies

~

There’s no coming back

From named “misunderstanding”

Pretense that salts wound–

Relationship’s done, over

Trust crippled, cancerous doom

~

Honesty serves well

In words’ kindest eloquence

Sincere intention–

Insures the bruising is light

Offers best recovery
